Coronavirus (COVID-19) Information

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)

Update as of Monday 8/16/21:  We are planning a regular school start with masks being optional & no vaccination requirements.  We know that there are various COVID variants surfacing in the United States & we will monitor that moving forward.   As a reminder, we do not plan to offer School @ Home.  We would only consider School @ Home if COVID cases increase significantly.  If students are out due testing positive for COVID, the school will follow the student's physician's orders for the return to school & we will provide make-up work for the absences.

The health and safety of our students, staff, and community remains our highest priority & Jim Ned CISD will closely monitoring any spread of COVID-19.  With information changing regularly, please be assured that Jim Ned CISD will continue to be in communication with our parents, staff, and community.  We stand ready to take all appropriate and reasonable measures to protect our students and our community.

The following guidance only relates to COVID (& not other illnesses).  Since school will be offered in an in-person only format for 2021-22, we will expect our students at school throughout the school year unless the student:

  • Has a fever (students must be fever free for at least 24-hours without medication);
  • Tests positive for COVID.  If a student or staff member tests positive for COVID, the school will follow their doctor's orders for a safe return to school.

In addition to the above:

  • The district will not contact-trace or require quarantining this year, unless our COVID-situation happens to worsen signficantly.  We will trace COVID like we would any other communicable disease & respond accordingly.
  • The district will not socially distance in the classroom or other common areas on the campus.
  • Students who may have been exposed to a COVID-positive case are allowed to attend school unless the student is either symptomatic or has a fever of 100 degrees or higher.  For parents who may choose to keep their children home from school due to possible exposure, the district prefers the parents provide supporting documentation from a doctor to substantiate the student's absence.  If documentation is not provided, it may result in unexcused absences for the student.
  • For the first six weeks of school, we will not allow visitors during lunch.  This will allow us to monitor COVID spread/exposure in the community for a reasonable period of time, as well as allow our students to get settled in at each campus.
  • Lunch deliveries from local restaurants & cafes are allowed at this time.

Let's all continue to pray that our Jim Ned community remains healthy at this time.  And let's all choose to be patient, flexible, and work well together for the best of our students, staff, families, and our Jim Ned community.  Roll Tribe!

School At Home - Online Learning!

While our Jim Ned teachers will continue to work with Google Classroom as our online Learning Management System (LMS), we do not intend to offer our "School @ Home" option in the 2021-22 school year.  In other words, the district will not offer a completely virtual online learning experience to students as it relates to the pandemic.  However, many teachers will continue to house their work & student work in the Google Classroom setting.

Self-monitoring is our first and most important step to remaining healthy at home & at school.  At Jim Ned, we will partner with our parents to ensure our students are as healthy as possible.  If your child has a fever, please keep the child at home until the child is fever free for 24-hours without medication

We will also continue to follow physician's orders as it relates to the health & well being of our students, so please continue to provide documentation from your child's doctor regarding their health & regarding a "return to school" date.  Thank you.

With masks being optional at this time, below is guidance on masks.  We will expect all parents & students to follow this guidance.  Thanks.

Acceptable masks & face-coverings:

  • Masks may be solid colors or may have geometrical or decorative patterns.  Masks in school colors and with school logos & lettering are acceptable.  Masks & face-coverings with words are considered acceptable; including school-spirit related (i.e. JN, Jim Ned, Indians, Tribe, etc.).  American flag patterns on masks are also acceptable.
  • Gaiters and bandanas are appropriate, as long as they meet the standards above for what is acceptable.
  • Face-shields are acceptable.  Hats or caps with built-in or added face-shields are not acceptable since hats/caps are not allowed except on special occasions.
  • Not Allowable:  Any face covering that may be offensive; items/clothing not intended for face covering; items that do not follow the dress code; items that cover the face so a person cannot be identified; or items that may scare students are not allowable.  Administration reserves the right to require a student to remove their face-covering if considered unacceptable by an administrator.

  • The principals will have final say on each campus as to what is acceptable and unacceptable.  Each unacceptable face-covering or refusal to wear a face-covering will be addressed as a dress code violation.

We will ensure our busses are adequately cleaned on a daily basis to ensure the wellness of our students. Our busses are sanitized daily by our driversIf any lab-confirmed COVID cases were known to be on a bus, we will use a Purell fogging disinfector device to thoroughly disinfect that bus.  In addition, our busses are deeply-cleaned 3-times per year by Germblast as well as in the case of any signficant outbreak of COVID-19 or other viruses.

Any parent who is concerned about the spread of COVID-19 on our busses can either have their child wear a mask on the bus to limit the spread or parents may personally transport their child to and from school if they choose.  Thank you for your patience, understanding, and flexibility.

JNCISD will require students to attend school in-person to be eligible to participate in any UIL extracurricular activity. This requirement is extended to all athletic events as well as any other UIL events for all grade levels.  This in-person requirement also includes our high school Career & Technology Education (CTE) courses

COVID-19 Frequently Asked Questions  (revised 8/16/21 4:00pm)

  1. How long does my child have to stay home from school if he/she tests positive for COVID?  The district will follow the child's physician's guidance for all COVID positive cases.  Parents must get written guidance from their child's doctor and share that with the campus secretary or nurse as quickly as possible.  For clarity, the district is not choosing the number of days a child should be out of school.  We will follow the doctor's orders.
  2. Will the district offer virtual learning (School @ Home) when students are COVID-positive?  Short answer is no.  However, some teachers will continue to use the Google Classroom Learning Management System to house the work that students will need to do either once they are well or are back at school.
  3. If my child has been exposed to a COVID-positive case, what does the district recommend?  Parents are allowed to send their children to school even after suspected exposure to a COVID-positive case.  However, we will ask the parents to monitor their child for symptoms and keep the child home if he/she is either symptomatic for COVID or has a fever.  If not symptomatic, the child may attend school.
  4. Can my child return to school if he or she tests negative for COVID? Yes.
  5. Who has to wear a mask or face-covering?  Masks and facecoverings are currently optional in the district.
  6. Does my child have to have the COVID vaccination to attend school?  No.
  7. Can I deliver lunch to my child?  Yes.
  8. Can a local restaurant or cafe deliver lunch to my child?  Yes.

Please stay tuned for additional FAQ responses as changes occur.

If you have an additional question to be considered for the FAQ, please contact your child's campus for an answer.  If the campus does not have an answer, they will share with the Superintendent's Office to consider the question for the FAQ.
